On 7 June 1980, Bob Marley and The Wailers took to the stage at Crystal Palace Bowl, performing to 30,000 people in what would become his final London appearance.
With Uprising about to be released, the encore delivered an unforgettable moment: the live debut of Redemption Song - performed solo, acoustic, and spellbinding.
The concert turned out to be his last London gig before his death the following year.
Leading music photographer Justin Thomas was determined not to miss it. Having missed Marley’s previous London show, he waded into the lake in front of the stage - armed with four rolls of film - and captured one of the most iconic performances of Marley’s career.
Justin recalls: "I’d bought a ticket, because as I remember, there were no photo passes at the Bowl. There was no photo pit either. The only way to get pictures was to wade into a lake in front of the stage. It was difficult keeping balance because the lake was full of slimy duckweed, and I had partaken of the Sensi."
Now, for the first time, these extraordinary photographs are brought together in a deluxe limited-edition book, featuring:
Previously unpublished images
Personal recollections from the night
A unique A3 fine art print (ready for framing)
Screen-printed and blocked cloth binding
A beautifully crafted slipcase
